MIAMI, FL March 11, 2010 - The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County's commissioning program MIAMI MADE, which has been supporting the work of local artists since 2005, is calling for new proposals from South Florida artists interested in extending the boundaries of the performing arts by creating, writing, composing, or choreographing a new work that may be supported by and presented as a workshop at the Arsht Center during the 2010-2011 Miami Made Weekend.
Artists living and working in South Florida are invited to submit proposals for new works in any area of the performing arts, including mixed media, perhaps works that extend beyond current artistic practices and incorporate new technology. Projects may be of any scale and suitable for performance either indoors or outdoors. In developing their concepts, artists should take into account the range of venues and alternative spaces at the Center (visit www. arshtcenter.org/tech for details).
THE PROPOSAL DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, JUNE 4, 2010 AT 5PM.
For guidelines, please go to www.arshtcenter.org/miamimade or contact miamimade@arshtcenter.org or call the MIAMI MADE Hotline: (786) 468-2094.
"By bringing the work of South Florida's most creative minds to the Adrienne Arsht Center stage, we continue to redefine the traditional boundaries of the performing arts and expand the repertory of works to be performed and enjoyed by future generations of artists and audiences," said Scott Shiller, Executive Vice President of the Adrienne Arsht Center. The MIAMI MADE commissioning project serves to encourage, enhance, and expand the reach of multi-disciplinary, groundbreaking work created and performed in our local Miami community."
In conjunction with the call for proposals, the Arsht Center's Education & Outreach Department will offer writing and presentation seminars in the spring of 2010, prior to the proposal deadline, for artists who wish to enhance their writing skills and performance proposals.
