The Boston Pops and Ann Hampton Callaway Set for The Adrienne Arsht Center

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County will present the BOSTON POPS, under the baton of Keith Lockhart, with special guest star Ann Hampton Callaway in a thrilling tribute to the music of the legendary Barbra Streisand and an homage to the best of Broadway. This engagement marks the finale of the 2012-2013 Knight Masterworks Season Pops Series on March 5, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall.

Tickets to BOSTON POPS: THE STREISAND SONGBOOK range from $50 to $125*, and may be purchased through the Adrienne Arsht Center box office by calling (305) 949-6722, or online at www.arshtcenter.org.

"Boston Pops is, as Keith Lockhart cleverly states, the perfect orchestra for people who don't know they like orchestras. And with a phenomenal program featuring some of the most beloved music from the iconic Barbra Streisand, there's no doubt that South Florida fans of all ages are in for an unforgettable, and incredibly fun concert," said John Richard, President and CEO of the Adrienne Arsht Center.

This special evening features soaring symphonic spins on Streisand's classic songs from her Broadway debut in the early '60s through her Hollywood hits (Funny Girl, The Way We Were, A Star is Born), and from her early pop recordings to her later concept albums (People, Higher Ground, What Matters Most).

Ann Hampton Callaway, whom Lockhart describes as having a "gorgeous voice and an unmatched musical intelligence," is set to sing Barbra Streisand classics such as "The Way We Were," "Don't Rain On My Parade," and a medley of "People" and "Being Alive" also featuring American jazz pianist Ted Rosenthal. Sharing humorous and inspiring anecdotes of her collaborations with Streisand, the platinum album-selling Callaway provides an insider's glimpse into the life of this legend, who has recorded six of Callaway's songs on her recent albums, including "I've Dreamed of You," the song Streisand sang to her husband, James Brolin, on their wedding day.

In addition, Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops will open the program with a tribute to the late composer Marvin Hamlisch, featuring some of the most beloved themes he created for musical theater and film, including "Through the Eyes of Love," from the film Ice Castles and the overture to A Chorus Line. Lockhart will also lead the orchestra in musical theater masterpieces, such as Stephen Sondheim's "Send in the Clowns" from A Little Night Music, the title song from Jerry Herman's musical Hello, Dolly!, and Jule Styne's overture to Gypsy, as well as John Kander's theme song to Martin Scorsese's film New York, New York.

As a champion of the Great American Songbook, Ann Hampton Callaway has made her mark as a singer, pianist, composer, lyricist, arranger, actress, educator, TV host, and producer. A born entertainer, she has a unique singing style that blends jazz and traditional pop, making her a mainstay in concert halls, theaters, and jazz clubs as well as in the recording studio, on television, and in film. She is best known for her Tony-nominated performance in the hit Broadway musical Swing! and for writing and singing the theme song to the hit TV series The Nanny. Callaway is a Platinum Award-winning writer whose songs are featured on six of Barbra Streisand's recent CDs, and she is the only composer to have collaborated with the legendary Cole Porter, setting her music to Porter's posthumously discovered "I Gaze in Your Eyes." Ann Hampton Callaway has collaborated with the Boston Pops on four occasions, first during an "Evening at Pops" television special with Keith Lockhart in 1999 and most recently during the orchestra's annual Pops By the Sea performance, heard live by over 15,000 people in Hyannis, Massachusetts in August 2012.
