GODSPELL comes to Fort Lauderdale's newest black box performance space, Andrews Living Arts Studio, 23 NW 5th St. in downtown.

GODSPELL, the quintessential Rock Musical for all ages, from composer Steven Schwartz, of WICKED and PIPPIN fame, plays now through June 26, Thurs. Fri, Sat. at 8 pm; Sun. at 3 pm. A special, black tie, wine & cheese reception to "meet and greet" the cast will be held on Sun. June 13 at 6:30 pm with a special 8pm performance. Seating is limited. Call 954-530-1879 to reserve tickets. Box office opens one hour before curtain.

GODSPELL celebrates the life of Jesus Christ through parables from the Gospel according to St. Mathew. This musical will rock your world with rhythm, sight, sound, energy, and electrifying yet beautiful melodies.

The show, which is not built on a traditional plot, utilizes clowning, pantomime, charades, acrobatics, and vaudeville to tell the story of Christ. A pageant that moves from moment to moment, GODSPELL features ten performers who are dressed as clowns. Jesus is played by local talent, Patrick Watkins; Judas is Josh Oliveras. The ensemble includes: Karen Reid, Rheanna Salazar, Ashlee Madhukar, Darnell Blake, Claudette Farquharson, Jonathan Yepez, Colin Healy and Dominuque Farquharson.

GODSPELL opened at the Cherry Lane Theatre on May 17, 1971 and was an immediate hit with audiences. Because the Cherry Lane was too small to accommodate the crowds, the production moved uptown to the Promenade Theatre where it played over 2,000 performances until it moved to Broadway in 1976. GODSPELL then played for an additional 527 performances. The show has had several revivals since its beginnings, and this production produced by ANDREWS LIVING ARTS STUDIO may extend into the summer at a larger venue.

The show is directed and staged by Andrews Living Arts artistic director, Robert D. Nation, who has just arrived on the theatre scene in South Florida after a theatrical career in NY that spanned over 30 years as an educational theatre director/acting coach, Equity actor and off-Broadway producer.
