Now showing in Theatre 2 at Stage Door Theatre is "Steel Magnolias", the beloved play that was also made into a Blockbuster Film that nabbed an Oscar nomination for Julia Roberts. This production is directed by Michael Leeds, whose recent outings at the Stage Door include hits like last season's "A Little Night Music", and most recently, "Mack and Mabel".  "Steel Magnolias" runs through November 7.

The play by Robert Harling is the true story of a group of women in a Lousiana Beauty Parlor. By turns hilarious and touching, it was one of Off-Broadway's biggest hits in 1987, and then again played New York in a 2005 Broadway revival. The Stage Door's set is practical, and audiences are delighted to realize the water really runs in the sinks, the hair dryers turn on, and people's hair is actually being done. "It was a challenge", laughs producer Dee Bunn, "but we thought the realism was important in a theatre that is so small, and the audience is so close. We went through a lot of expensive body mics before the actresses learned to protect them from the water".

The cast includes Jana Tift, Sally Bondi, Nikki Bromberg, Merry Jo Cortada, Miki Edelman, and Danielle Tabino. Show times are Wed, Thurs, Sat, and Sun at 2PM, Thurs, Fri, Sat at 8PM, and Sunday at 7PM. For more information, call 954-344-7765.  www.stagedoortheatre.com
