Spring Classes For All Ages Offered At Maltz Jupiter Theatre

Spring-Classes-For-All-Ages-Offered-At-Maltz-Jupiter-Thetare-20010101

The Maltz Jupiter Theatre’s Conservatory of Performing Arts is offering exciting spring classes taught by Broadway-caliber theater professionals beginning Jan. 9.

In addition to producing full-scale professional family shows throughout the season, the Theatre’s Conservatory offers year-round learning opportunities for kids and adults of all ages, including a spring semester filled with musical theatre, acting and dance classes. Registration is now open for all classes.

“The Conservatory provides high-quality arts education in a positive, safe and supportive environment,” said Julie Rowe, the Conservatory’s director of education. “Through our classes, students gain self-confidence, leadership and team-building skills.”

The connection to the Theatre allows students the opportunity to perform on the Theatre’s stage and work alongside professionals both onstage and off, with hands-on workshops and master classes taught by renowned performers and choreographers.

Upcoming opportunities include learning to ‘act the song’ with Ben Liebert of Broadway’s Wicked, as well as a general audition workshop with Beverly Blanchette, Dean of Theater at A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, and insider’s advice from Nancy Carson, a leading New York City talent agent.

The Conservatory offers a range of ballet, jazz, tap and hip hop dance classes, as well as courses in book writing, improv and audition techniques. Students in the Conservatory’s signature Musical Theatre Production class will perform in Pippin on the Maltz Jupiter Theatre stage in May.

And children and teens aren’t the only ones having fun at the Conservatory. Adults of all ages also participate year-round in the Conservatory’s acting, tap dancing and singing classes. Classes are offered in the evening throughout the year to accommodate adults with busy schedules, in addition to a full range of daytime seasonal classes offered in the fall and spring. Adult classes range from song and dance to tap and musical theater singing, as well as a book writing class and play-reading club.

“My adult acting class is an actor’s garage concept, where students are invited to bring something they want to work on to the ‘garage’ to fix it,” said Conservatory instructor and veteran actor Kenneth Kay. “Students can bring in a monologue to perform in front of the class to prepare for an audition, or they can focus on cold reading – just to give them a chance to stretch their wings without the pressure. We’ve had a great core group of actors coming to the class, and we’re always looking for new recruits.”

The Conservatory’s instructors also include longtime actors Kim Cozort, Jay Johnson and Kristine Tempel, as well as Brian Andrews and Anna McNeely, both Broadway veterans who first worked together as cast members of the original Broadway musical Cats. Other instructors include professional dancer Viky Andreatta Smith, Julliard School graduate Sarah-Helen Land and playwright Lea Roy.

The Maltz Jupiter Theatre Conservatory of Performing Arts offers a challenging, innovative and quality theatre experience to students of all ages and abilities. In addition to a full schedule of classes, the Conservatory's workshops and master classes offer students an opportunity to learn first-hand about the world of theatre from nationally known composers and performers, agents and local instructors.

Spring classes begin Jan. 9, and registration is now open. Classes range from $15-$20 an hour, or $150 and up for the semester. For information, call (561) 575-2672 or visit www.jupitertheatre.org.
