GableStage at the Biltmore, announced the Southeastern Premiere of FARRAGUT NORTH by Beau Willimon, opening on December 26 and running through January 24.

Set against the backdrop of a tight presidential primary race, Farragut North follows a young press secretary as he falls prey to backroom politics, the manipulations of veteran operatives and the wiles of a seductive intern.  This off-Broadway smash is a timely tale of hubris, loyalty and the lust for power.

The New York Times raved that Farragut North is "Fast-paced!  Has the topical thrill of an insider's tour of recent events!" and Variety declared "not since The Best Man has the theater enjoyed such a heady thriller on presidential politicking."   The L.A. Times said Farragut North "captures the frenzied scheming and counter-scheming of would-be Washington kingmakers!  The play has a fresh accuracy that suggests the playwright, who worked for both Sen. Charles E. Schumer of New York and Howard Dean, the former governor of Vermont, was taking juicy notes on the campaign trail!"

Beau Willimon (playwright) had the world premiere of his play FARRAGUT NORTH at the Atlantic Theater Company in New York in November 2008. It recently had its West Coast premiere at The Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles and was included in the Contemporary American Theater Festival in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.  A resident of Brooklyn, Willimon holds a B.A. from Columbia University and an M.F.A. in playwriting from Columbia University's School of the Arts.

The GableStage production features seven wonderful South Florida actors:  Nick Duckart, Besty Graver, David Hemphill, Deborah Sherman, David Sirois, Robert Strain and Gregg Weiner.  Direction is by Joseph Adler, set design is by Sean McClelland, lights are by Jeff Quinn, sound design is by Matt Corey, costumes are by Ellis Tillman and the stage manager is Kristen Pieski.
