JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT East Ridge High School 11/7-11/10/2012
The Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. Joseph, his father's favorite son, is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams. When he is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged. He is purchased by Potiphar where thwarting advances from Potiphar's wife lands him in jail. When news of Joseph's gift to interpret dreams reaches the Pharaoh (wryly and riotously depicted as Elvis), Joseph is well on his way to becoming second in command. Eventually his brothers, having suffered greatly, unknowingly find themselves groveling at the feet of the brother they betrayed but no longer recognize. After testing their integrity, Joseph reveals himself leading to a heartfelt reconciliation of the sons of Israel. Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock 'n' roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless.Lyrics by Tim Rice; Music by Andrew Lloyd WebberFor more information on East Ridge High School, click hereFor more information on Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, click here

SUMMER AND SMOKE The School of Theatre at Florida State 11/2-11/11/2012
By Tennessee Williams
Directed by Michael Hayden
Isn’t that funny? I’m more afraid of your soul than you’re afraid of my body. — John
Set in the early years of the 20th century Alma Winemiller, a very proper and spinsterish minister’s daughter, and John Buchanan, the bad-boy doctor next door, share an anatomy lesson about the body and soul. Alma seeks love but her upbringing only allows her the spiritual kind; John is focused solely on the fulfillment of the body. While the two come to understand each other with more clarity, their transformations are neither neat nor simple.

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE Annie Russell Theatre 11/9-11/17/2012
This Tony Award-winning musical drifts between nostalgia and celebration of a time gone by. The Man in the Chair acts as the antisocial, melancholy narrator, struggling to recapture the glory of the roaring 20’s and the original Broadway spectacle that has long passed by. As he puts on the record of his favorite 1928 musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, the characters light up his drab living room and transport him to a time when flappers and Follies were all the rage. A true love letter to the glory of 1920’s Broadway, The Man and the audience follow the plot of young Janet, a Broadway star forced to choose between her career and her marriage. Producers, gangsters, chorus girls and one alcoholic chaperone conquer the stage (and his living room) with brilliant song, dance and spectacle not seen since the prohibition.

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR Plant City Entertainment 11/9-11/17/2012
It seems especially fitting that the first rock opera, created as a concept album at the end of the turbulent '60s, should have at its center a social and political rebel. Jesus' meteor-like rise in renown provides, as the title suggests, a parallel to contemporary celebrity worship. As his radical teachings are evermore embraced, Judas increasingly questions the enlightened motives of this new prophet, resulting in betrayal. Christ's final days are dramatized with emotional intensity, thought-provoking edge and explosive theatricality. Propelled by a stirring score, by turns driving and majestic, satirical and tender, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR illuminates the transcendent power of the human spirit with a passion that goes straight to the heart.Lyrics by Tim Rice; Music by Andrew Lloyd WebberFor more information on Plant City Entertainment, click hereFor more information on Jesus Christ Superstar, click here

PIPPIN NEW TAMPA PLAYERS 11/9-11/18/2012
Once upon a time, a young prince longed to discover the secret of true
happiness and fulfillment. He sought it in the glories of the
battlefield, The Temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political
power (after disposing of his father King Charlemagne the Great). In
the end, he found it in the simple pleasures of home and family. PIPPIN
is a hip, tongue-in-cheek, anachronistic fairy tale that captivated
Broadway audiences and continues to appeal to the young at heart
everywhere (the show has become a staple on high school and college
campuses). The energetic pop-influenced score by three-time
Oscar®-winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz
(GODSPELL, CHILDREN OF EDEN, and the animated films Pocahontas, The Hunchback Of Notre Dame and The Prince Of Egypt) bursts with one showstopping number after another, from soaring ballads to infectious dance numbers. Featuring a strong ensemble cast and a show-stealing song-and-dance narrator, PIPPIN
is equally effective as an intimate, black-box production (as
envisioned by the authors) or as original director/choreographer Bob
Fosse?s splashy, dance-driven spectacle, which included some of the most
brilliant staging in Broadway history.

OKLAHOMA! Vero Beach Theatre Guild 11/6-11/25/2012
The 'G2K' Getting To Know Series: Uniquely adapted musicals specifically for youth performers. Rodgers & Hammerstein's first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, having set the standards and established the rules of musical theatre still being followed today. Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. Although the road to true love never runs smooth, with these two headstrong romantics holding the reins, love's journey is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road. That they will succeed in making a new life together we have no doubt, and that this new life will begin in a brand-new state provides the ultimate climax to the triumphant OKLAHOMA! In this adaptation for pre-high school students, the content has been edited to better suit younger attention spans, but all the elements that make this show a classic are still in place. You and your students will be enchanted by the timeless story and the dazzling score, while at the same time learning about theater and its production. PLEASE NOTE: All schools wishing to peruse or perform a G2K musical should apply through theMusic by Rodgers, Richard; Book and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II; Based on the play GREEN GROW THE LILACS by Lynn Riggs; Original Dances by Agnes De MilleFor more information on Vero Beach Theatre Guild, click hereFor more information on Oklahoma!, click here
