New Theatre announces its 26th 2011-2012 Anniversary Season
"6 plays that put the Drama in Family Drama"

New Theatre's 26th Anniversary season continues to fullfill it's mission of producing vibrant theatre that stimulates, provokes, challenges, and entertains while cultivating ‘New Voices- New Works & the Classics'".

This season's theme of "family" is kicked off with the Bard's triumphant family history, Henry V, adapted and directed by Ronald Mangravite, running August 26 - September 11, 2011. Henry V, the final play about the reigning family crown, chronicles King Henry V's war with France over land and titles. As part of the National New Play Network's Continued Life for New Plays Fund and in conjunction with Actors Theatre of Louisville's Humana Festival in Kentucky and Actor's Express Theatre in Atlanta, New Theatre presents the rolling World Premiere of Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them by recent Yale Playwrighting graduate A. Rey Pamatmat and directed by THE NEW's Artistic Director, Ricky J. Martinez, running October 14 - 30, 2011. This timely and controversial work examines the lives of three all but abandoned teens having to create a makeshift family and its values while getting through the pangs of growing up. When one of them shoots something they shouldn't the outside world comes encroaching in. Following is the World Premiere of Twain and Shaw Do Lunch by Chambers Stevens directed by THE NEW's Literary Manager Steven Chambers, running Dec. 2 - 18, 2011. In 1907 the world's two greatest living writers, novelist Mark Twain & playwright George Bernard Shaw, had lunch together. This, their first meeting, was monumental. It would be Mrs. Shaw's job to make sure they didn't destroy each other. This witty and based-on-truth play won the Palm Beach International Playwrighting Competition as Best Comedy, and the Long Beach Playhouse New Play Award.

2012 brings 3 more plays directed by THE NEW's Artistic Director Ricky J. Martinez starting with the World Premiere of Winter by Robert Caisley running Jan. 27 - Feb. 12, 2012. What begins as a scheduling "headache" arranging for the funeral of fraternal twins Peter and Christina Winter's recently deceased mother evolves into an all-out blood feud between the siblings and their mother's mysterious, young live-in assistant. Winter marks Mr. Caisley's second production with New Theatre and the play was written as an homage to New Theatre for what the playwright considers to be his new found home. Next, New Theatre has commissioned and will World Premiere local Miami-based playwright Juan C. Sanchez's new play, Property Line, running March 23 - April 8, 2012. In this funny and clever drama about real estate and territorial instinct, two long-time friends and neighbors are at war over 50 feet of green grass on waterfront property. Juan C. Sanchez is resident playwright at Promethean Theatre in Broward County, a two-time Carbonell Best New Work nominee and his work has also been produced in New York City and Minneapolis. The final play of the season is a classic running May 18 - June 3, 2012, which will be announced at a later time.
