Will Spotlight Talented Students from WPB's Conniston Community Middle School

The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts will host the inaugural A.C.E. Institute Showcase featuring talented students from Conniston Community Middle School in West Palm Beach. This free, ticketed showcase (Lights...Camera...A.C.E.!) will be held at the Kravis Center's outdoor Gosman Amphitheatre on Friday, November 19, at 7 p.m.

The A.C.E. (Arts Can Empower) Institute is an intensive summer and afterschool enrichment program for economically disadvantaged students, in grades 6-8, enrolled at Conniston Community Middle School (a Title One, IB World school), which is located at 3630 Parker Avenue in West Palm Beach.

"The main objective of this program is to offer students the opportunity to work with local, professional Teaching Artists to learn new skills in the areas of theatrical design and production and art forms such as spoken word poetry, dance, percussion, theatre and visual art," said Tracy C. Butler, the Kravis Center's Director of Education.

"The participating students have explored various community cultural influences since the program started in mid-July, and, as a team, they've created their own final production by cultivating their ideas and using their unique talents to express themselves on stage," she added. "Certainly, the skills gained will extend beyond the stage and help mold future artists and leaders. Students are challenged and motivated to grow as artists and as responsible community members."

The A.C.E. Institute culminates in this final performance on November 19 for family, friends and the community. Since the students are encouraged to take an active role in creating the final production, they will experience a sense of ownership and responsibility for its outcome.

The A.C.E. Institute is sponsored by The Mary and Robert Pew Public Education Fund.
