David Goldyn Resigns From Rising Action Theatre

David Goldyn founded Rising Action Theatre in 2006 with its critically acclaimed and financially successful shows at a dance club in Wilton Manors called Boom. They were Southern Baptist Sissies (which featured orignal board members Harriet Bensman and Vicky Keller) and The Last Hairdresser (which featured original board member Steve Woolett.)

A board was formed and Rising Action Theatre, Inc became non-profit and openned a beautiful theatre in Oakland Park. Its Premiere show was the world premiere of The 11 O' Clock Number which opened the space and featured Mr. Goldyn, David Leddick, Merry Jo Cortada, and Vicky Keller in the cast.

The budget for renovation of the theatre was originally $35,000 but permitting issues made the budget skyrocket well over $130,000. A donation from the late Samuel and Helen Goldberg saved the day as well as money from Mr. Goldyn himself and Vicky Keller.

For Rising Action Theatre, David Goldyn has directed and produced: The Sisters Rosensweig, Take Me Out, Some Men and Fit to Be Tied; and Assistant Directed the highly acclaimed Bent with Director Larry Buzzeo.  

Under David's tenure at the theater, Broward New Times named Rising Action Theatre Broward's Best Theatre two years in a row.

Other shows produced by Mr. Goldyn for Rising Action Theatre were The Andrews Brothers, Reefer Madness, Grey Gardens, Say You Love Satan, The Boys in the Band, Sordid Lives, 2 Boys in Bed on a Cold Winter's Night, The Killing of Sister George, Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks, The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told, Some Men, Simply Barbra, Confessions of a Mormen Boy, Bathhouse the musical, Judy Garland Live, Christopher Peterson's Eyecons, Mother Son, and the current As Bees in Honey Drown.

Rising Rents caused Rising Action Theatre, Inc. to move to its current home on the Sunshine Cathedral Campus where it renovated the Graham Fasana Chapel and made it a theatre. The Theatre is grateful to Sunshine Cathedral, Paul Fasana and the late Dr. Robert Graham for its new home.

Grants recieved by Rising Action Theatre under Mr. Goldyn's tenure include The John Graves Grant, Broward County Grant, The State of Florida Grant, Oakland Park Grant, Pride of South Florida Grant. and others.

Mr. Goldyn is moving on to pursue acting, teaching and producing interests in New York. He was involved in the Broadway Accross America Revival of last year's Promises, Promises with Sean Hayes, which is one of Mr. Goldyn's favorite musicals.

The Rising Action Theatre Company announced the appointment of Andy Rogow for the new position of Producing Director. Mr. Rogow is well-known in the South Florida theatrical community. He is the former Artistic Director of the Hollywood Playhouse, which received many Carbonell and Curtain Up awards and nominations under his tenure. He is also a Past-President of the Theatre League of South Florida, having served on its Board of Directors for six years and founding the Producers Forum. For the past several years he has worked as a freelance director.  

His most recent credits include Steve Solomon's My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish and I'm in Therapy and it's two sequels which have toured the country extensively over the past 7 years, including several stops at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. He also directed the musical revue Food Fight which had a successful run at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre several seasons ago, and toured nationally last year with extended runs in Atlanta and St. Louis. Most recently he directed Yoo Hoo, Mrs. Bloom with Elayne Wilks at the JCAT Theatre in North Miami Beach.   www.RisingActionTheatre.com
