Blessing's 'Two Rooms' Replaces 'After Ashley'

The Promethean Theatre season change!
AFTER ASHLEY, which was to be TPT's first show of the season, has been replaced with Tony and Pulitzer Prize nominated playwright Lee Blessing's TWO ROOMS.

The Promethean Theatre replaces it's previously scheduled season opener, AFTER ASHLEY, with Lee Blessing's harrowing and touching drama TWO ROOMS. An unexpected letter from Dramatists Play Service pulling the rights to the first show of a season days before casting begins, would usually mean a major set back for any young theatre company, but not TPT. Producing artistic director Deborah L Sherman feels it "gave us the unique opportunity as a company to produce a play we've wanted to do for quite some time because of it's startling relevance. Given our current political climate, we are in place as a community to address larger global issues and what better way to do that than a powerful piece of theatre."

TWO ROOMS

By Lee Blessing
Directed by Margaret M. Ledford
October 20-November 5, 2006

SYNOPSIS. The play illuminates both the numbing agony of one man taken hostage by political terrorists and also the helpless fury of those who are left behind—a loved one impatient for something to be done, and officials who feel they must be guided by logic rather than emotion. Written in 1988, Two Rooms serves to remind us of our past and gives us pause to consider our present and what the future may hold, including the sense of futility and despair that comes when people of goodwill realize that logic, compassion and fairness have become meaningless when dealing with those who would commit such barbarous acts so willingly.
"…the playwright's eye is penetrating…[Mr. Blessing] reaffirms his authority with timely political questions" —NY Times
"…although Blessing wrote "Two Rooms" in the late 1980s, the current war in Iraq -- and particularly its hostage-takings -- gives the drama a live-wire shock of topicality… it reminds you that theater, when it's good, can make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck" —Washington Post
