American Idol Finalists Perform This Spring At Miramar Cultural Center

SPRING BRINGS MORE STELLAR PERFORMANCES

TO THE MIRAMAR CULTURAL CENTER 

The excitement begins on Saturday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. with Ramiele Malubay, Season Seven American Idol Finalist, in "Back to You," her first hometown performance since touring with the top 10 American Idols throughout the USA and Philippines. Together with Fellow Idol Contestant Danny Noriega, they will wow the audience with their rockin' sweet Big Voices. The show will touch on the importance of giving back to our community such as GK (Gawad Kalinga), a global army against poverty. *Tickets range from $30 to $70. 

On Sunday, March 21 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. the Family Fun Series brings two performances of The Little Engine That Could, a Broward Center for the Performing Arts Presentation. The endearing little engine toots the simple words "I think I can, I think I can" set to song and dance that have become synonymous with the power of positive thinking. As with all family shows, the entertainment includes face painting, arts and crafts courtesy of Young at Art and a post-show snack courtesy of Blue Bell Ice Cream, Whole Foods and McArthur Dairy. *Tickets $14

On Saturday, March 27 at 8 p.m., they feature Jamaica, Farewell, a one-woman play based on Debra Ehrhardt's true life story as she takes you on an unforgettable journey escaping poverty, prison time and death in an island paradise brought to the brink of ruin by political turmoil. She pulls off a daring dangerous caper with the unwitting help of an American CIA agent in order to fulfill her lifelong dream of starting over in America. *Tickets are $32 and $37.

The Miramar Opera season closes out with Gold Coast Opera's Carmen on Tuesday, March 23 at 8 p.m., sponsored by WLRN 93.1 FM and Hazen & Sawyer. Georges Bizet's Carmen is one of the most beloved operas of all time. With an exotic yet realistic Spanish setting, it features the beautiful gypsy who loves only those who don't love her.*Tickets $40 and $45.

Coming on Saturday, April 24 at 8 p.m. are the five-time Grammy Award-winning and 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award recipients the Blind Boys of Alabama. These legendary Gospel singers will perform selections from their 30 albums and their latest CD Duets, featuring some of today's greatest musical artists. According to Today's Country Magazine, "The Blind Boys of Alabama have delivered a great collection of tunes that will satisfy the needs of any music fan as it crosses multiple genres while maintaining a positive vibe and message throughout." *Tickets, on sale March 10, are $40 and $45.

And currently open for registration is Summer Theatre Camp 2010, which begins Monday, June 14 with sessions running through Friday, August 20. The Performance Project and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts team up to provide children and teenagers through 18 years of age with the ultimate theatrical experience at three locations -- Miramar Cultural Center /Arts Park, Broward Center for the Performing Arts, and Aventura Arts and Cultural Center. Also, still on display is the Power Revealed: African Art exhibit at the Ansin Family Art Gallery inside the Miramar Cultural Centers/ArtsPark. This landmark exhibit of 25 hand-carved masks, figures and ceremonial objects from the collection of the Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale, Nova Southeastern University depicts concepts of power from the rich cultural heritage of Africa.

And debuting in April: Down the Rabbit Hole, Salvador Dalí's rare suite of lithographs that explores the Surrealist master's response to Lewis Carroll's literary classic Alice in Wonderland. It offers an excellent introduction to the artist, the surrealist movement and one of the most beloved and imaginative stories in Western culture.
